Mar 13, 2015 Server cert verification within OpenVPN checks to see if the cert being presented has embedded in its defined characteristics that it's a server cert. The idea there is to prevent other clients on the network from presenting their certificates and having them accepted (due to horrific misconfiguration of quite a few other parameters), as proof.

WARNING: No server certificate verification method has been enabled. See http://openvpn.net/howto.html#mitm for more info. The link at openvpn.net says to use build-key-server - that agrees with this: https://www.digitalocean.com/community/tutorials/how-to-set-up-an-openvpn-server-on-ubuntu-16-04#step-8-adjust-the-server-networking-configuration. No biggie but thought you might like to know. |
